Effects of Lee Silverman Voice Treatment-BIG (LSVT-BIG) Program on Depression, Anxiety, Balance and Activity of Daily Living in Parkinson's Patients

Abstract
Objective : In this study, the LSVT-BIG program was implemented in Parkinson's disease patients to investigate the effects on depression, anxiety, balance and daily activities.

Methods : From September to October 2020, three patients with Parkinson's disease who were receiving rehabilitation treatment at S Hospital located in Chungbuk area were tested. The study was designed as BA among pre/post review and individual experimental study design, and the study was conducted over a total of 12 sessions with 9 intervention periods (B) and 3 generalization periods (A). To measure the depression, anxiety, balance, and daily activities of the subject, the measure was taken using the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Korean YZ (STAI-KYZ), the Korean version of Modified Barthel Index (K-MBI), and the Timed Up & Go test (TUG).

Results : After the application of the LSVT-BIG program, all three subjects had lower levels of depression and anxiety, and improved their daily activities. In the balance, subj ect 1 showed a clinically significant increase, in the case of subject 2 and subject 3, the increase in score was small, but the balance was steadily improved. and it was confirmed that all subjects maintained better scores during the generalization period than the intervention period.

Conclusion : The LSVT-BIG program is expected to be usefully used as an effective treatment to enhance mental health as well as the physical function of Parkinson's patients.
